A web-based text experience covering events in the Organization's first schlo checkers tournament! This html
story allows the reader to make some choices on what will happen in the matches and who they will play against, though
you might not always get what you pick! Schlo checkers is an original concept for a board game using eight pieces
on a board with sixteen spaces with minimal rules for movement to alter the overall score of the board into a team's
selected winning number.
Description of the game from itch.io: A dialogue-heavy, interactive experience involving a fictional board game: schlo checkers.
Schlos are a group of genetically engineered humans.
In this simulation, a well-known figure in Schlo culture, Drey Gan, is selected to participate in a series of schlo checkers games against a variety of friends and foes, most of which have been featured in previous schlo works. The player, you, can select who Drey chooses to play against and what moves he makes. The simulation allows you to press different buttons to make different situations happen, but it's not exactly like you'll be playing the game.
This project isn't directly in relation to any prior schlo works, but is still in accordance with events that have taken place previously.

Commentary
Schlo checkers was a fun one. I had the idea to make a game similar to checkers for a while prior to beginning this project. I would imagine what I would want the pieces to look like and the different ways they could move on the board. It was fun to plan. With this project, I explored "pixel art", which I used to make the sprites and the game pieces. Looking back the sprites aren't as good as I would have liked them to be, but I think this project is charming and fun. It is not web-optimized as I have always found web optimization difficult and it's a computer game. Play it on your computer if you're curious about it!
