Schlo: Final Stand

A schlo kinetic visual novel with a demo released on 08.12.2020 and a full version released on 11.02.2020. The project started as a novel that was written in April 2020 and then adapted into a visual novel. It uses very simplistic graphics and covers important events occurring in the Organization. I would consider it one of my best works.

Description of the game from itch.io: The next installment of the Schlo series, Schlo: Final Stand, makes its final, full release, as a kinetic visual novel. Follow T. Chlroid, an insecure genetically engineered human, as he struggles in an attempt to turn his cherished friendship with an important public figure into something else.
Featuring characters seen in "what is schlo?" and "a better schlo dating simulation", it could also serve as a standalone project. It is technically a sequel to "what is schlo?", while the later parts would take place at the same time as "a better schlo dating simulation".
Potential trigger warnings: mention of suicidal tendencies, self-harm, eating disorders, human trafficking, discussion of age of consent...it also features a decent amount of sexual humor and mention of sexual acts.
There is mention of some controversial issues that are not depicted in a favorable light, rather they are issues that can be acknowledged as a part of a society that can be paralleled to reality.

Commentary

This game is among my favorites and has been since its creation. It is dear to me because it covers topics that I've wanted to make schlo projects about it, but these events happen much later in the timeline than my first couple of works. From my perspective, it is well-written and very stylistic and meaningful. While working on this project, I did not have access to any art supplies besides my macbook's trackpad. The art has appropriate amount of amateurity that perhaps accentuates the experience of the visual novel. I was in a very specific mood and headspace while creating this work which was consistent and powerful enough that I can feel it through playing this game. Any time I have gone through Schlo: Final Stand, I have thoroguhly enjoyed it. I love this one!

  • "2": It's kind of dreamy and business-y.
  • "4": Dramatic, game-over sort of song.
  • "5": Annoying fair-like music with generic drums. This one always reminded me of a snow cone.
  • "6": Awful sounding, annoying melody with four different varieties.
  • "7": Rough sounds with a fade out.
  • "8": Regal, repetitive melody. Played whenever Daryl shows up.
  • "9100": Slow version of the 9th song. Kind of a theme for Hunter.
  • "9150": Fast version of the 9th song. Kind of a theme for Minax.
  • "wip1": This one has a flashy sound. I don't think it was in the game.
  • "wip2": This one has a skippy sound. I don't think it was in the game.
  • "10": Made with some sounds from a "frankenstein" vst. It's upbeat and annoying!
  • "11": Very simple sounds.
  • "12": This one feels...modern...?
  • "13": Heartbreaking.
  • "14": This one is pleasant. It's like sun rays and a music box.
  • "15": Longest song in the game. Maybe too obvious that I thought I was really onto something with this one...
